Shoulder/Rotator Cuff Pain & Injury

The shoulders are some of the hardest working joints in the body. You use them for almost everything you do, so if they’re hurting, they can have a serious impact on your life. Shoulder pain is usually a dull ache. It may be constant, or only bother you with certain motions, such as reaching over your head or behind your back. The pain may make it difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position, or awaken you when you roll over in bed.

The shoulder is a “ball-and-socket” joint, with the head of your upper arm bone fitting perfectly into the space in your shoulder blade. The area where these bones come together is lined by a thick layer of protective cartilage. Fluid-filled sacs called “bursae” protect the tendons from rubbing against the bones. Any wear, tear, or inflammation of these tissues can cause shoulder pain, weakness, and loss in range of motion.

Common shoulder conditions include adhesive capsulitis (also known as “frozen shoulder”), impingement, arthritis, and rotator cuff wear and/or tear. Depending on your condition and how advanced it is, your doctor may recommend surgery. The good news is that most cases of shoulder pain can be treated effectively with physical therapy. We will work together with you to reduce pain, restore strength and mobility, and get you back to doing the things you love.
