What to Expect on Your First Visit

During your first visit, you and your therapist will sit down together for an evaluation in a private treatment room. The two of you will discuss your concerns, including pain or lack of mobility/function. Just as important are your goals for treatment. What do you want or need to do, that you can’t do now?

Your visit will also include mobility, strength, and pain assessments. This allows us to get a good idea of where you are starting, and help us design a treatment plan tailored to you and your body. The appointment will take about an hour.

Your first visit to our office will include a little bit of paper work to be completed. Please arrive about 5-10 minutes early so we can get that taken care of. If you prefer to fill out the intake forms ahead of time at home, you can find them here.

What to Bring:

Please bring your insurance card, your physician referral (if you have one), and any other medical documents that are related to the issue we are seeing you for. If you did your intake forms at home, don’t forget to bring those too. If you use assistive equipment such as a cane, walker, brace, etc, please bring that along as well.

What to Wear:

Loose, comfortable clothing is best. You should be able to sit, stand or stretch easily. Providing the best care includes being able to see and touch the affected area. Please wear clothing that allows easy access to these areas.

Relax.

Pain is never easy, and it’s okay to feel anxious about your first appointment, especially if you’ve never done PT before. The important thing to remember is that you are no longer in this alone. We are here for you. Click here to read what other patients have to say about Summit PT.
