Balance Disorders & Falls

If you have a history of falls, or feel unsteady on your feet and in danger of falling, then physical therapy can help. For some easy balance tests you can do at home, click here.

Falls tend to be self-perpetuating: once you fall for the first time, you’re more likely to fall again. You can break the fall cycle by being proactive, and physical therapy is a great way to do it!

The BTrackS Balance System

At Summit PT, we can quickly and accurately evaluate your fall risk using the computerized BTrackS Balance System. The test is simple and painless. You simply stand on the board with your eyes closed. The system tracks the small adjustments and weight shifts that your body makes in order to keep your balance. It will then generate a score, which indicates your fall risk as low, medium, or high.

Physical therapy can help balance disorders in a number of ways, including:

  • Coordination Exercises
  • Posture Exercises
  • Proprioception Exercises
  • Strength Training
  • Visual Tracking Exercises
  • Gait Training
  • Exercises to increase range of motion

The best part is re-testing after you’ve done balance training with us, and seeing how much you’ve improved your score.
